Poem by Yesika Salgado

Boy loves other boys, draws pictures and drinks too many drinks on a Friday night / me, girl who loves boys and writes feelings, smoked too many bowls on a Friday night / the city is Oakland / the night unfurls and we spill into a street wet with rain / the Uber driver that we take to Boy’s apartment is a married man from Ghana / he does not want to pull over and join our boy loving party / Boy says he wants to draw me / I play Sean Paul loud into his living room / I’m still in love with you boy / the night tightens its grip again / the air gets away from us / Boy cooks dinner/ feeds me chilaquiles / his hand to my mouth / when I’ve had enough he runs the plate over his body / I laugh / too high / too drunk / but I know / we both are two lonely boy loving hearts in a city that ain’t housing who I wanna go home to / I leave / it is still raining / my hotel room smells like no one / I sleep a dreamless sleep / I wake up and forget I am not home / It makes no difference / you aren’t there either
